Big Chop “HAIR” Story Winner
What has returning back to your natural hair texture taught you about yourself?
Returning back to my natural hair has taught me about building back confidence within myself. When my hair was relaxed it was so damaged. My hair was breaking very badly and I never felt beautiful. The way your hair looks can affect someone’s confidence in themselves. When I big chopped and saw how thick and beautiful my natural texture was even though it was short, I realized that you don’t have to have straight hair to be confident. When your hair is beautiful and healthy you feel so good about yourself.
What are your natural hair goals?
I want healthy, thick, long natural hair… Everyday, I set aside time to moisturize my hair because natural hair is dry. I wash and condition weekly. I will make my goals because nothing can stop me but myself.
What is your “Big Chop” HAIR Story?
Doing the Big Chop was a big decision for me because I really loved my relaxed hair but it came to a point where my relaxed ends started to thin out from over processing. My nape was breaking off and it became very depressing for me. It took me a few months to really come up with a decision. I wanted my hair to be healthy and thick therefore I decided that if I wanted that to happen I would have to have a fresh start.
I started getting perms since I was 5 or 6 therefore I never really got to know the hair that God gave me. I wanted to do my own hair at home and I could take the time to take care of my hair. I stopped getting relaxers in April 2013 and big chopped on September 4, 2013. Doing the big chop was VERY scary at first but when I looked at my hair after I did it; all I can say was wow. I still couldn’t believe I did it but my hair looks so much healthier. I love my natural hair and I don’t regret doing the big chop not one bit!
